La automotriz alemana BMW producirá de forma exclusiva en su planta mexicana el nuevo modelo M2 para el mercado global a finales de 2022, según anunció este lunes la compañía en un comunicado.
El M2 será el tercer auto que ensambla la armadora mexicana, ubicada en el céntrico estado de San Luis Potosí, lo que implicará la contratación de 800 empleados adicionales y un segundo turno de producción.
Al producir la segunda generación del BMW M2 de manera exclusiva para el mercado global, queda demostrada una vez más la alta capacidad del talento humano que hay en San Luis Potosí y se renueva nuestro compromiso con el crecimiento y el desarrollo del estado”, declaró Harold Gottsche, director de la planta.
El BMW M2 es el modelo más compacto y el más vendido de la gama BMW M, de acuerdo con información de la empresa.
El vehículo destaca porque combina “las capacidades de los autos de competencia con la facilidad de uso en el manejo diario”, además de la tecnología de chasis, el tren de potencia de alto desempeño, la aerodinámica probada en pistas y un diseño que atrae a fanáticos.
La planta de San Luis Potosí ha reportado “un crecimiento sostenido”, con un incremento de producción de cerca de 25 % en 2021.
La armadora produce el BMW Serie 3 desde 2019 y en 2021 agregó el BMW Serie 2 Coupé, el primer vehículo del grupo alemán diseñado y hecho en México.
El nuevo vehículo se integra cuando el modelo M cumple medio siglo de entrar al mercado.
“Estamos muy entusiasmados de ser parte de la celebración del 50 aniversario de M, ahora que nuestra planta mexicana construirá vehículos M para todo el mundo”, añadió Gottshe.
La empresa alemana, que en Latinoamérica solo tiene otras plantas en Brasil, destacó que la fábrica de San Luis Potosí se ha convertido “en una instalación estratégica para la red de producción” del grupo.
El anuncio llega cuando la industria automotriz mexicana ha afrontado los estragos de la escasez de chips y la inflación, por lo que reporta un crecimiento de 3,4 % en la producción de vehículos en el primer trimestre de 2022, pero una caída de 1,8 % en las exportaciones.
La importancia del sector automotor en México radica en que representa 3,8 % del PIB nacional y 20,5 % del PIB manufacturero, más que ninguna otro rama, según la Asociación Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA).
