El Gobierno Nacional anunció este martes una reducción de 50 % en la tarifa del Seguro Obligatorio de Accidentes de Tránsito (SOAT) a partir del 1.º de enero del próximo año.
La noticia la dieron a conocer los ministros de Hacienda, José Antonio Ocampo, y de Transporte, Guillermo Reyes, quienes prometieron seguir trabajando por la sostenibilidad de la póliza.
Esta medida, que regirá para las pólizas expedidas durante 2023, aplicará únicamente para los siguientes vehículos:
- Taxis
- Autos de negocio
- Microbuses urbanos
- Motocicletas de bajo cilindraje
- Servicio público urbano e intermunicipal
“Se trata de garantizar que tengamos una cobertura total del SOAT, que hoy día es extremadamente baja para motos, es menos de la mitad. Eso genera unos riesgos enormes y, además, existe un gran fraude. Hay gente que se accidenta por otros motivos y lo reclama al SOAT”, explicó el ministro Ocampo.
Por su parte, el ministro Reyes pidió a los moteros poner de su parte: “[Tienen que] reducir la siniestralidad, debe haber una acción bilateral a ser responsables, a cuidar de sus vidas, a cuidar de la vida de los peatones y los demás”.
Por otra parte, la administración de Gustavo Petro intensificará los controles para prevenir el fraude y la evasión en la compra del SOAT.
El gobierno izquierdista tendrá en cuenta la reducción en los índices de accidentalidad vial y los casos de uso indebido del seguro para evaluar la continuidad de esta medida.
El presidente Petro explicó que “al reducir a la mitad el valor del SOAT para motos y taxis, buscamos más progresividad en la eliminación de los subsidios a la gasolina“.
