La FIFA se encuentra en Colombia por medio de sus delegados Jaime Yarza (Tournaments Director), Marina San Miguel (Youth Tournaments) y Marely Flores (Senior Womens Tournaments Manager), quienes estarán en el territorio realizando la primera visita oficial con miras a la organización del Mundial Femenino Sub-20.
“El martes la delegación FIFA y personal administrativo de la Federación Colombiana de Fútbol, iniciaran su calendario de visitas por el territorio nacional, él cual se extenderá hasta el próximo viernes”, informó la Federación Colombiana de Fútbol.
Es de mencionar que el pasado 23 de junio la FCF confirmó la elección del país como sede de la Copa Mundo de la categoría. Según explicó Ramón Jesurún en AS, se decidieron por Colombia ya que “genera mucha simpatía a nivel internacional, nos quieren más afuera que nosotros mismos aquí adentro. Finalmente se logró. Se hizo la propuesta y aceptaron que la sede fuera Colombia”.
Cuatro estadios serán los usados para llevar a cabo este certamen. Bogotá y Cali serán sedes a falta de oficialización, en la que se espera definir las demás y ahí será clave la FIFA, que ayudará a orientar el resto de estadio para recibir el Mundial, que no cuenta con fecha de organización estipulada.
Este campeonato surgió en 2002 con Canadá como la primera sede y se realiza cada dos años. A la fecha, se han jugado diez torneos, dejando como saldo de campeones a Alemania (3 veces), Estados Unidos (3 veces), Corea del Norte (2 veces), Japón (1 vez) y España (1 vez), que son las vigentes portadoras del título.
