* Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), el sobrepeso y la obesidad causan alrededor de 2,8 millones de muertes al año en el mundo.

Luego de estudiar más de 18.000 personas entre los 30 y 70 años, científicos llegaron a la conclusión que correr de forma pausada puede ser la mejor manera de controlar esta condición que afecta a cerca de 650 millones de personas en el mundo.

“La genética es el factor que más influye en el sobrepeso y la obesidad, por encima de la dieta o el ejercicio”, así lo concluyó la revista Nature señalando que, para controlar el almacenamiento excesivo de grasa, muchos especialistas se centran en acabar con los malos hábitos dietéticos y el sedentarismo.

Hoy, un nuevo estudio liderado por la Universidad de Taiwan revela qué tipo de actividades son las más eficaces para frenar esta enfermedad crónica, que afecta a cerca de 650 millones de personas en el mundo.

“La investigación ha sido elaborada en 18.000 personas de entre 30 y 70 años, que formaban parte de una base de datos china de investigación biomédica.

El estudio publicado en la revista PLoS Genetics, confirma que practicar jogging (correr de forma más pausada) es la mejor forma de controlar la obesidad, seguida de otros deportes como el ciclismo de montaña, el senderismo, la marcha atlética, ciertas modalidades de baile y el yoga.

Según los autores, estos deportes ayudan a reducir el índice de masa corporal (IMC) en individuos, cuya genética les hace más propensos a tener un peso excesivo. Pero, ojo: habría que practicarlos de forma regular, es decir, tres veces a la semana durante, al menos, 30 minutos.

Por otra parte, actividades como el ciclismo, los estiramientos o la natación no evitan los efectos de tu genética sobre la obesidad.

“Con los estiramientos se consume menos energía y la natación estimula el apetito”, explica a Sinc Wan-Yu Lin, principal investigador del estudio.

Aunque el problema de la obesidad es complejo y multifactorial, este nuevo estudio precisa el tipo de actividad física más recomendable para las personas afectadas por esta enfermedad, que supone una de las mayores complicaciones sanitarias en el mundo.
