Colombia fue nominada como destino líder a nivel mundial por los World Travel Awards, que son conocidos popularmente como los “Óscar del turismo”, compitiendo con prominentes destinos para vacacionar como Brasil, España, India, Grecia, entre otros.
El país cafetero fue nominado para la categoría de Destino Líder en el Mundo, pero también fue nominado en nueve categorías más, entre las que se encuentran la del Destino Culinario Líder en el Mundo.
En la categoría de Destino Líder en el Mundo, Colombia se enfrentará a Brasil, Chile, Costa Rica, Dubai, Grecia, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenia, Malasia, Maldivas, Mauricio, México, Miami Beach, Florida, Estados Unidos, Marruecos, Nueva Zelanda, Portugal, Sudáfrica, España, Sri Lanka, Estados Unidos y Vietnam.
Bogotá, la capital del país, fue nominada como Destino de Viajes de Negocios líder en el mundo, mientras que San Andrés se encuentra entre los posibles ganadores de la Playa Líder en el Mundo y Barranquilla y Cali han sido nominadas como Destinos de Ciudad Cultural Líder en el Mundo y Cali fue nominada también para la categoría Destino Turístico Emergente Líder en el Mundo.
“El mundo sigue reconociendo nuestro potencial como destino turístico de alto nivel y recibir estas 10 nominaciones a nivel global en los premios conocidos como los ‘Óscar del Turismo’”, destacó la presidenta de Procolombia, Flavia Santoro. “Nos motiva aún más para trabajar incansablemente por esta industria que es clave para la recuperación económica de nuestro país. Además, nos emociona y nos llena de orgullo que también ProColombia sea reconocida y haya sido nominada en la categoría de Oficina de Turismo Líder en el Mundo”.
La ciudad de Medellín fue nominada a la categoría Destino de Escapada Urbana Líder en el Mundo, Cartagena de Indias se encuentra entre los favoritos de Destino de Luna de Miel Líder en el Mundo y Procolombia fue nominada como Oficina de Turismo Líder en el Mundo.
Los premios que se entregan desde 1993 se realizarán el 27 de noviembre en Moscú, Rusia.
