El riesgo existe señaló el responsable de la OMS indicando que se han superado los 3,5 millones de casos de COVID-19 en el mundo mientras las muertes rozan la barrera de las 255.000.
Esta organización insiste en que durante la fase de desconfinamiento debe garantizarse que los contagios están controlados, que el sistema sanitario puede afrontar la transición, que está minimizado el riesgo de rebrotes y que se han tomado medidas preventivas en escuelas y lugares de trabajo.
Al mismo tiempo la OMS pide que antes de aplicar medidas de alivio de cuarentenas y otros confinamientos debe garantizarse que hay una adecuada gestión de los
posibles casos importados y que la opinión pública está bien informada sobre las medidas tomadas por el Estado.
El director de la entidad con sede en Ginebra insistió en que no pueden descartarse futuras oleadas del coronavirus, pero que ante esa posibilidad “no puede permitirse que cunda el pánico”, sino que se debe “estar preparados, porque ahora tenemos la oportunidad de sentar bases sólidas en los sistemas sanitarios”.
“Si algo hemos aprendido de esta crisis es que invertir ahora nos permitirá salvar vidas más adelante”, aseguró el experto etíope, quien afirmó que “la Historia nos juzgará por cómo respondimos a la pandemia y qué medidas tomamos”.
