Por otra parte, el jefe de Estado advirtió a los talibanes que no interrumpan ni amenacen la evacuación de miles de diplomáticos estadounidenses y traductores afganos en el aeropuerto de Kabul, de lo contrario su administración responderá contundentemente con una “fuerza devastadora”.
“La verdad es que esto se desarrolló más rápido de lo que habíamos anticipado”, admitió Biden, quien aseguró que EE. UU. le brindó al Gobierno afgano “todas las oportunidades” para determinar su propio futuro.
Por último, el presidente demócrata prometió alzar la voz por las mujeres que quedaron bajo el régimen talibán, así como defender los derechos básicos de la población afgana, preocupada por la toma de los insurgentes islamistas.
